The Wedding day

I have been meaning to write an article on my wedding day for a while. It has been over 3 months since Vivek and I got married. It all seems like a distant memory now, more of a dream. Having said that there are various incidents and emotions that are still quite vivid in my mind.

Henz Nite

Back in Kenya most of my close friends got married when they were around 21 years of age. I was the youngest in my group then, about 19. Like most traditional Indian girls they would make a few trips to India, go through the whole shebang of pre-arranged meetings with guys, finally “settle” for someone who satisfies their parents’ pre-set criteria of a suitable boy! May I add the “settle” part takes place with an immediate effect! No time is “wasted”. Basically they would return to Kenya married.

My Engagement to Vivek.

Vivek and I got engaged on Sunday, 18 July, 2004. It was quite an exciting event – kicked off with an hour of prayers and rituals by a Hare Krishna priest Aniruddha aka Andrew, some dancing, exchange of “shagun” and rings, good food, more dancing with a sneak preview of our (Vivek and I) Jive performance at the reception …..
